Stay safe online

A clear result is helpful — but not a guarantee. Here’s what to look for when something feels off.

Signs a website may be a scam

  • The web address looks slightly wrong — extra letters, misspellings, or odd domains.
  • You were pushed to act fast — “your account will be closed” or “offer expires today.”
  • Prices seem too good to be true, or the site asks for unusual payment methods.
  • There’s no real contact info, privacy policy, or about page.
  • You found the link in an unexpected email, text, or social media message.

Common types of online scams

  • Phishing — Fake login pages that steal your password or bank details.
  • Fake shops — Sites that take your money but never deliver products.
  • Investment fraud — “Guaranteed returns” or crypto schemes that disappear with your funds.
  • Tech support scams — Pop-ups or calls claiming your computer is infected.
  • Prize & refund scams — Messages saying you won something or are owed money.
